Geometry Tutoring for Atlanta Students
One-to-one Geometry tutoring that helps students understand geometric concepts, develop stronger problem-solving skills, and approach proofs and unfamiliar problems with greater confidence.
When Geometry Starts to Feel Difficult
Geometry can feel very different from the math courses students have taken before. Instead of relying primarily on algebraic procedures, students are asked to visualize relationships, interpret diagrams, apply definitions and theorems, and explain why a conclusion is true.
For some students, the challenge is learning to write proofs. Others understand the geometric ideas but struggle when Algebra 1 skills are incorporated into geometry problems.
I work one-to-one with students to identify what is causing the difficulty and break complicated problems into manageable steps. When an underlying algebra skill is contributing to the problem, we can strengthen that skill as well.
Personalized Geometry Tutoring
Every Geometry student has different strengths. A student who is comfortable with calculations may struggle with proofs and logical reasoning, while another student may understand geometric relationships visually but have difficulty translating them into equations.
I tailor instruction to the student's current coursework while helping them develop the reasoning and problem-solving skills needed throughout Geometry.
Students may receive help with topics such as:
-
Points, lines, planes, and angles
-
Parallel and perpendicular lines
-
Transformations
-
Triangle congruence
-
Triangle similarity
-
Properties of triangles
-
Special right triangles
-
The Pythagorean Theorem
-
Polygons and quadrilaterals
-
Coordinate geometry
-
Circles, arcs, and sectors
-
Area and perimeter
-
Surface area and volume
-
Geometric constructions
-
Trigonometric ratios
-
Proofs and logical reasoning
Making Sense of Geometry Proofs
For many students, proofs are one of the most challenging parts of Geometry. A diagram may make a conclusion seem obvious, but writing a proof requires the student to explain logically why that conclusion must be true.
I help students learn how to identify the information they are given, determine what they are trying to prove, recognize relevant definitions and theorems, and organize their reasoning into a logical sequence.
Rather than treating proofs as something to memorize, we work on understanding the relationships that make each step valid. As students become more comfortable with geometric reasoning, proofs often become much less intimidating.
Connecting Geometry and Algebra
Geometry and Algebra are closely connected. Students frequently need to solve equations, work with coordinates, use formulas, manipulate radicals, and apply other algebraic skills while solving geometry problems.
When a student understands the geometric concept but gets stuck on the algebra, I can identify that distinction and address the underlying skill rather than allowing it to become a continuing obstacle.
Making connections between Algebra and Geometry also helps students see mathematics as a connected system of ideas rather than a collection of separate courses.
Geometry Tutoring for Atlanta-Area Students
I provide personalized Geometry tutoring for high school students throughout the Atlanta area, including Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Buckhead, Brookhaven, Marietta, and surrounding communities.
One-to-one tutoring allows us to focus on the student's current Geometry course while spending additional time on the concepts, proofs, or prerequisite skills that need the most attention.
Whether a student needs help catching up, ongoing support throughout the school year, or additional preparation for an upcoming test, instruction can be tailored to the student's individual needs.
